Life Legacy

Mary Ann (Fisher) Eckrich, 69, of Port Royal, passed away on June 13 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Mary Ann was born in Spartanburg, SC, to the late Russell and Nona Coggins Fisher. She joined the Navy in 1965 and was stationed at Beaufort Naval Hospital. While there, she met Arthur Eckrich and they were married in 1966. After getting out of the military, she was in the first class of nurses (LPN) to graduate from Technical College of the Lowcountry and then worked at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. After Beaufort Memorial, she opened her own antique store, Grandma's Cupboard, which she ran for 19 years before finally retiring as an amateur photographer, poet, and artist.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Eckrich, her son, William Eckrich who is in the Air Force and currently stationed in Montgomery, AL, her nephew, James Steven George of Spartanburg, and two nieces, Mary Elizabeth George of Atlanta, GA, and Nona Faye Guest of Moore, SC.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by four sisters, Shirley George, Doris Bennett, Betty Moore, and Ruth Graham, a brother, Russell Fisher, and a nephew, Jefferson David George.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, 20 June, from 5-7 pm at the Anderson Funeral Home (611 Robert Smalls Parkway). A Mass of Christian will be held Thursday, 21 June, at 10:30 am at Saint Peter's Catholic Church (70 Lady's Island Drive). Interment will follow at Beaufort National Cemetery.
